I went to a counselor over a year ago.
I expressed some of the challenges I had been going through after death and divorce.
My counselor first asked me to talk about my feelings and emotions surrounding the challenges, and after a little emotional release, she then asked me, “So, tell me, what are your CONSTANTS? What is constant in your life, no matter what is happening to you?”
I pondered for a moment, and then I began describing the list of things in my life that are constant, no matter WHAT happens.
Some of my constants are…
My testimony and relationship with my Savior.
My ability to pray and read the scriptures, to draw myself close to Him.
Going out in nature and breathing fresh air.
Writing down things I am grateful for each day.
Running, or exercising.
Eating ice cream.
Loving my children and family.
Taking a warm shower.
Talking to my mom.
Sleep.
Taking pictures of beautiful things.
Serving others, especially my children.
Watching home improvement shows.
Studying the gospel doctrine lessons, so I can teach.
Washing the dishes… the dishes are always there for me.
Laundry… the laundry is also always there.
My pillow — my real counselor — my pillow has held and dried all my tears, so many times.
Eating more ice cream.
As I listed some of my “constants,” I realized that there are so many things that I can do daily, that keep me centered and grounded, despite the chaos that can bring the dark clouds of confusion and doubt.
I became very grateful for my constants, my simple things that I can cling to.
Of all the things I am the most grateful for on my list, it is my relationship with my Savior. He has been there with me, through it all, and will forever be my faithful constant in every storm, and every trial.
Sometimes I wonder if Jesus gets tired of me asking Him to constantly be there with me, and for Him to spend so much of His time with me, but He never complains.
I love Jesus, my brother, my friend, my Savior, my CONSTANT!!
What are YOUR constants that get you through the hard stuff?
